The latest Evangelical scandal involving Ted Haggard is, of course, hilarious.
But equally fun is the response of some other Evangelical pastors. One big-name pastor, Mark Driscoll, offers tips and advice for other young, male pastors on how to avoid giving in to sin. Among the pieces of advice, he provides this nugget:
It is not uncommon to meet pastors’ wives who really let themselves go; they sometimes feel that because their husband is a pastor, he is therefore trapped into fidelity, which gives them cause for laziness. A wife who lets herself go and is not sexually available to her husband . . .
So Ted Haggard is a lying, hypocritical gay drug user because his wife got fat. Good to know.

that is exactly why I have decided to become annorexic....and not marry a pastor.

There is no reason a pastor should be sitting alone at the church at odd hours (e.g., early morning and late evening) to study when anyone can drop in for any reason and have access to him.
I guess he believes that pastors need to be inaccessible to best serve their parishioners?
If a pastor's wife gets fat, it's only sensible he has sex with a gay man. Being with another gender is like being in another country: it doesn't count. I think that people need to understand that and not try to destroy both Mr. Haggard's credibility and his career. It's just another example of the media blowing basically nothing well out of proportion.
Well said, Erik. And the meth purchase was probably research so he could feel closer to the sinners he saves.
Fat wife is pretty good, but doesn't he have some more excuses?
Was he abused as a child?
Alcoholic? Dyslexic? Dyspeptic?
