"Accurately, and with a better vocabulary"

Here are some upcoming movies that I am looking forward to:

Hollywoodland - This reminds me of L.A. Confidential, and it just looks very interesting.

The Black Dahlia - I love a good film noir, and this one looks stylish and intrigiuing.

All the King's Men - One of the greatest casts ever assembled, led by master craftsman Sean Penn.

The Departed - I have loved just about every Martin Scorsese film, and this cast is quite spectacular. Jack Nicholson looks amazing in this role. This may be the film I am most looking forward to this year.

Running with Scissors - I did not read the book, but the trailer reminds me of The Royal Tenenbaums, plus Annette Bening is always great.

Marie Antoinette - Sophia Coppola directed it. That's all that matters. Also, the soundtrack features New Order, Gang of Four, and other amazing 80s bands.

The Prestige - This film about magicians, from director Christopher Nolan, looks creepy, thrilling, and fascinating.

The Science of Sleep - from Michel Gondry, the director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, one of the greatest movies ever.

Flags of Our Fathers - It looks like Clint Eastwood will continue his streak as one of the greatest directors we have. This tale of Iwo Jima looks powerful and moving.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - From Sascha Baron Cohen, the genius behind Da Ali G Show. The trailer makes me ache with laughter.

Stranger than Fiction - This looks amazing and Charlie Kaufman-esque. Will Ferell, Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman. Watch the trailer.

The Fountain - Weird epoch-leaping fuckedupness from Darren Aronofsky.

Fast Food Nation - I am interested to see how they will make this nonfiction book into a movie. But the cast is amazing, plus it is directed by Richard Linklater.

Babel - This looks gritty, depressing, and great. I generally like the multiple storylines angle.

For Your Consideration - This is the latest from the gang that made Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show. This one is about the film industry, and features the whole cast from the other films, plus Ricky Gervais.

Where is Fast Food Nation?

I would probably add Casino Royale and Babel to my list.

Regardless... it looks like an entertaining Fall/Winter.

Thanks, Jake. I knew I would leave some off. I even thought of both of those about 20 mins before I made my blog entry. I am adding them now.

I'm really hoping that a couple of those movies come to Brainerd, but I'm really looking forward to All the King's Men, Sean Penn and Kate Winslet in the same movie, I might have to go to St. Cloud to see it if Brainerd doesn't get it, and Marie Antoinette just because of Sophia Coppola.

that science of sleep still with the gigantic hands? Way out, man.

I would also say that Eternal Sunshine is a great movie, but perhaps more for Kaufman's writing than Gondry's direction. I think the movie would have been just as successful (if not more) had it been another Jonze-Kaufman colaboration (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation).

I have to disagree, Erik. First, some of the sublte special effects, like in the store when all the words on the merchandise start disappearing -- those small touches add such depth to the film.

Second, and most importantly, Michel Gondry co-wrote the screenplay with Charlie Kaufman.
