What kind of dog is this?

I saw Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, and of course I loved it. I realize that everyone in the world is writing about this film, and I probably don't really have anything new to add, but here are some of my thoughts.

This film is wrong in so many ways; it is vicious, unrelenting, unforgiving, and brutal. But it is hilarious beyond belief, and may be the epitome of satire. The social satire in Borat is so galactically superior to most other satires, that its implications take a long time to process.

What I fear, however, is that many people will not get it. I know that many people think that Borat is funny because he is racist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic. People who do not get the satire think, "Oh, he's making fun of Jews--that is funny." These people obviously do not get the hits-close-to-home message of the film. (I felt the same way about Beavis & Butthead--most teenage dorky boys who loved Beavis & Butthead had absolutely no idea that they were being made fun of. But B&B was never this funny.)

But the fact that much of the American viewing public is not very bright does not take away from the brilliance of the film; it adds to it.

Sacha Baron Cohen is a genius of the first order. He cracked me up in Talladega Nights, he made me cringe on Da Ali G Show, and now he takes it to the stratosphere.

And the wrestling scene in Borat had me doubled-over in laughter. I thought I might throw up from laughing so hard.

Have you heard that Cohen just signed a $42 millon deal to make a movie out of another of his personas, the gay Austrian fashionista Bruno?

That's a ridiculous amount of money.

Well, it is not all going to him. That amount also includes the cost of making the film, so it is like $20m for him, $22m for production.

But at least they show such non-offensive family films as Saw III.

I was laughing so hard during the wrestling scene, I couldn't breath. And it kept going and going. My partner kept rocking back and forth in his seat saying, "Oh my God. No. Oh my God!"

I don't think I was ever really able to take a drink of my soda for fear of spitting it up all over myself of rows in front of me.

Those college kids claim that the production crew took them to a bar before cameras were even rolling.
