I know this is the second time in a few days that I have ranted about some popular "comedian," but my brother sent me this video, and I could not resist blogging about it.
So, Larry the Cable Guy . . . Are you kidding me with this? I think it is fair to say that the fact that Larry the Cable guy made $19 million last year is a sign that human evolution may have reached its peak and is, in fact, backsliding.
Anyway, I think this is an interesting video for two reasons:
1) It shows what an act the whole dumb redneck thing is. The comedian, whose real name is Dan Whitney, grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, after all.
2) He was never funny but just figured out that he could get rich by playing to the lowest common denominator.

I love how in the comments of that video on YouTube, someone points out that he is pretty much a Dave Coulier wannabe. Cut-it-out!
I plan on buying comedian Steve Hofstetter's latest stand up CD just because it is titled "Cure for the Cable Guy". The cover photo of the CD has an effigy of Larry being hung.

Hmmm... I wonder if there was any event/incident/election that might have inspired a comedian to think that the country would embrace a disengaged, anti-intellectual, closed-minded Southern simpleton.

It is funny how often we see this kind of act today. Ann Coulter pretty much does the same act. As does radio talker Michael Savage. Take on a personality that is completely absurd and ridiculous. Then go out in public and make as big of an ass of yourself as possible. Talk shit about those dumb commie lefties that are all treasonous and think they are so much better and smarter than all the rest of us.
And there is a large number of people who will take everything you say as gospel. And not only will those silly people take the personality seriously... the personality starts to actually take themselves seriously as well. I guess if you tell a lie long enough...
i wish larry was a cable guy. but yeah, that guy has REALLY let himself go since that video... which i hope was from the early nineties...
I think it's stunning he was even less funny before the "Cable Guy" act.
Why, America, why? Why do you exhault the utterly unintelligent and crass people of the world?
