Someone come and rescue me

First, this:

I can look you in the eye and tell you I feel I've tried to solve the problem diplomatically to the max, and would have committed troops both in Afghanistan and Iraq knowing what I know today. -- George W. Bush Apr. 24, 2006

Totally.

Second, this:
You all know where my musical tastes reside, but about once per year a pop song comes along that stands out -- and I am talking about POP in the poppiest sense of pop. Songs like "Rock Your Body," "Family Affair," Hey Ya" -- these are some pop songs that I absolutely loved. I loved these songs mostly because a) they were danceable, and b) they seemed different and better than the normal poop on the radio. And I liked them partly because of the response of the crowd when I was spinning the tunes.

And this year, a new song joins the ranks. I love - love - "S.O.S." by Rihanna. Love it. I love the beat, I love the "Tainted Love" sampling, I love the melody. As my reign as DJ Wang comes to a close, I am sad that I will not be at Zorbaz this summer (I mean thiz zummer) because I would love to play "S.O.S" on the dancefloor. I love it.

Sometimes the pop music comes to the rescue.

You know, when I was typing my blog entry, I thought to myself, "I'll bet that Hannah likes this song too, and she will be one of the first to post."

True story.

I'm going to go listen to "S.O.S." now.

I just took a listen. Go figure that it is #1 on iTunes. Definitely a great club song.

Oh the shame I feel for seeing the song title "SOS" and immediatly started thinking Abba.

did you mean to write "poop on the radio" or was it supposed to be "pop on the radio" and you got a little o happy? either way it is funny.

unfortunately, i can't say i share your opinion here wanninger. unlike you, i hate when pop artists rip off the beat of an older, popular song. a good example of this is jessica simpson's take off on "jack and diane"

sorry, just not that wonderful of a song. but i'm wondering, do you have any good suggestions for techno? like club techno dance stuff or what have you (ala sandstorm).

Agre would kill you for saying J&D isn't that good of a song.

I rather like it myself actually. Any song that has the phrase "little ditty" is solid.

Parker, Tay DIDN'T SAY J&D wasn't that good of a song; he said JESSICA SIMPSON'S COVER OF IT WASN'T GOOD. Cripes.

That being said, I don't really get into this song any more than "Pon De Replay," which I didn't get into at all.

Tay -- whereas Jessica Simpson simply sand new vocals over the music for "Jack & Diane," "S.O.S." adds new bass and beats, upping the bump factor. So I don't think you can compare the two.

As far as techno goes, since you mention "Sandstorm," I'll asuume you mean more of the hard techno. Darude (who does "Sandstorm") has a few other good songs on his album. One of the best (and most popular) people doing actual techno these days is Benny Benassi. His most popular is "Satisfaction," made famous by a Wendy's commercial. But his song "Love is Gonna Save Us" is excellent too.
Dj Tiesto has a techno version of "Adagio for Strings" that is pretty interesting.
"Hear My Name" by Armand Van Helden is very fun.
. . .and an all-time classic, "One More Time" by Daft Punk.

Dub-
Have you ever heard the remixes of William Orbits "Adagio for Strings"? I tend to prefer them to Tiesto's version.

Tay-
Some of my favorite club songs would be "Flat Beat" by Mr. Oizo, Fragma's "Toca's Miracle" (a little more housey but still good), Cassius "The Sound of Violence", and Delerium feat. Sarah Mclachlan "Silence". Chicane "Salt Water", Energy 52 "Cafe del Mar (Marco V Mix), and John Digweed's "Heaven Scent" mix are pretty good trance tracks.

I almost put "The Sound of Violence" and "Silence" on there, but I was trying to go more along the lines of "Sandstorm" -- not that any of my picks really sound like "Sandstorm." I love "Sandstorm," but after playing it 2 nights per weekend for 3 years, I got pretty sick of it.

I do like Orbit's versions of "Adagio." I just picked Tiesto's version because I felt it fit better with the others on my list.

"Satisfaction" is crazy, especially the DJ Launch Remix. Jake Beckerleg tried to the the DJ at prom to play it and he had never heard of it. LAME!
