"When Cameron was in Egypt Land . . . Let my Cameron go."
My cousin and I went to the city yesterday for a "culture day." We saw the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and then went to the Art Institute. I have been many times, of course, but I never tire of seeing some of my favorite artists' works. And Tuesdays are free.
Here are some pictures I took of a few of my favorites in the collection:
Wassily Kandinsky

So I got a little too close to a sculpture . . . who among us hasn't set off museum alarms?
Just admit it. You took all these photos so that you could "case" the museum for a future heist. And your setting off the alarm was just really a theatrical test of their defenses.
We went to the Walker today. Sadly, no Kandinsky. There was a cool Warhol self-portrait and a nice orange de Kooning

not going to lie... i am not a fan of modern art. my tastes pretty much stop at manet and seurat. before that? good stuff. david, van eyck, vermeer, delecroix, and your big three of course in the renaissance.
Tay, I did have my Cameron Frye moment at the big Seurat, as I do each time I go there(hence the blog title).
And Carson -- it's true. I even have Magritte-inspired bowler hats ready, and I've been listening to "Sinner Man" in preparation for the big art heist.
(Sorry about the overload of film references.)
when I went to the Walker last year with AP AH I set off no less than two alarms.
Wait, wait...Thomas Crown Affair?
That's the art-heist bowler-hat reference, right?
And dub, I just hope you have a plan for getting past the infrared laser grid...
Yes, Max... I've been studying Catherine Zeta-Jones's moves from Entrapment, so I am all set for the infrared.
awesome. i need to go to some nice museums.
"Sinnerman," as in the Felix da Housecat song?
dub, i have a hunch that our taste in art is quite similar - i spend most of my time in front of those paintings, as well as in the rothko room. and i've been meaning to hit up that warhol exhibit - maybe reading week... worth it?
Sounds like a great day dub, I'm excited to see those places this year. Nicole, they don't like you taking photo's of paintings because the intensity of many flashes can hurt the peice and they want you to buy pics from the gift shop...
I know how you can get past the lazer grid! you make this enormouse fishing pole out of fiberglass rods from fleet farm... I will make it work... honest
As for "Sinnerman" -- I do love the Felix da Housecat remix, but it is not a Felix da Housecat song. He just made a remix of a classic Nina Simone song, which is an extraordinary song. The movie (The Thomas Crown Affair) features the original, not the remix.
Mayah -- it is good if you like Warhol. But definitely go on a Tuesday -- free day! I always find the MCA to be very hit or miss. And I wanted to post a Rothko picture I took, but it was a bit blurry.
Matt, please get started on the fiberglass rod. You are the MacGyver of art heists.
Dub, you just need to pop on your iPod and dance your way through security a la Ocean's Twelve.
A Rothko turned out blurry? Unbelievable.
I'm trying to decide if it would be more amazing for dub to use a fiberglass fishing pole, breakdance moves, or Entrapment style acrobatics to get past the lasers. I'm thinking Catherine Zeta has the right idea. But you'll need a spotter. Is Sean Connery still alive?
Max sings that song in English class sometimes. I'm never quite sure if he sings it for me, but mi hijo always laughs and gives me a queer look.
