You don't know how to drive.

This weekend I went to the "Moving America Forward" rally on the south side of Chicago. After a really long wait, some good speeches by other politicians, and a couple songs by Common, the President came out and delivered an excellent stump speech.

While not as thrilling as seeing Obama on election night, the opportunity to see a president in person is an amazing one, and since I still love this guy, I knew I had to go.

I know that things are not going to go my way on election day tomorrow, and that makes me very sad, but the crowd was still pretty fired up by Obama's message.

The highlight of his speech was his car analogy, wherein he talks about how the Republicans drove the car into a steep ditch, then stood idly by ("drinking Slurpees and fanning themselves") as the Dems tried to push the car out. (The Republicans even kicked some dirt and rocks down on the Dems along the way.) Well, the car is finally out of the ditch and pointed in the right direction, and now the Republicans want the keys back.

"Sorry, Republicans, but you don't know how to drive."

I appreciate that you are standing by your guy even as the ship is sinking.

He will continue to be unfairly blamed for unemployment, which could very well cost him 2012. Unfortunately, blaming Republicans for unemployment is equally naive, so I don't have a lot of sympathy for the guy.

At this point, this administration only has itself to blame. Republicans were powerless and the public was unusually optimistic. In response, we got a stimulus bill that didn't really stimulate, lackluster health care reform, and financial reg that was more reactionary than sensible.

It's time for change we can believe in... again.
