I hear they have an ideology

When you can't think of something to post, a fresh batch of Bush quotations will never let you down!

The enemy is a -- a bunch of cold-blooded killers -- that have taken a great religion -- taken parts of a great religion and converted it into a, an ideology that is, they perverted a great religion, and they have an ideology.

You know, I like my buddies from West Texas. I liked 'em when I was young, I liked 'em when I was middle age, I liked 'em before I was President, and I like 'em during President and I like 'em after President. And it's fun to have 'em come to the White House.

"I like 'em during President." Good stuff.

how cute.

now, is that something that should be said about our president, feeble old man or not?

GWB tiptoed the PC line with that first one.

I think you may be right, Jason. I also like the intense irony involved in GWB talking about someone else being ideological. But that goes without saying.
And yet I said it.

Here is a HILARIOUS quote from W.
During a debate with then-Vice President Al Gore on Oct. 11, 2000, in Winston-Salem, N.C., Bush said:

"I don't think our troops ought to be used for what's called nation-building. . . . I think what we need to do is convince people who live in the lands they live in to build the nations. Maybe I'm missing something here. I mean, we're going to have a kind of nation-building corps from America? Absolutely not."

This is a twofer. Not only is his statement about nation building a perfect example of W's blatant hypocrisy, but he also says "people who live in the lands they live in".

Are they supposed to live in the lands they don't live in?

Jake, you didn't have the pleasure of being my student when Bush was president. For the last few years, I had a daily Bush quote on the board. Clearly I used it for daily grammar lessons, not to push my political agenda on my students. I would NEVER do that.

Clearly.

A few students got mad about it, but even a lot of the Republican students realized the humor in the way he talks and enjoyed the daily quotes. At least the ones who don't take things so seriously. To me the best Republicans are the ones that can laugh at Bush -- they may agree with his policies, but at least they are not so tightly wound that they can't see that yes, he does in fact have trouble speaking coherently sometimes.

Wang-
I think my sister did have the pleasure of being a student of yours during one of the Bush years, so I will have to ask her about it and see what she remembers. But I can certainly imagine.

I still remember a few classes of yours that got some people a little worked up. There was one where we discussed stereotypes. You mentioned a group of people and the class would compile a list of all the stereotypical assumptions of them.

Back to the subject of Bush... it really is odd. The guy is one of the most powerful individuals in the world. Can he not afford a copy of Strunk and White? But then he wouldn't seem so folksy. Except for growing up with a powerful rich father, attending Yale, and dodging the draft... he is just a regular down-to-Earth guy like me.

Voting for people based on their qualifications and experience is sooo last decade, I guess.

Well if there's anything Clinton wasn't, it's a feeble old man. So since it makes sense when taking the "polar opposites" track, I'll say 'feeble old man' by default.

However, Bush does swing a golf club decently. I've seen actual feeble old men swing gold clubs. It's really feeble.

PS Dub, I know Bush isn't exactly the most articulate person, but we all know you were pushing your political agenda. :P

C'mon. Give the youth a bit of credit.

I really don't think you are pushing a political agenda unless you are explicitly telling people to vote for a specific candidate. Just making fun of someone and/or discussing what you think is best for our country is part of everyday life.
